Paul Bishop, Bureau Centre Manager with Frontier Software Services has been in the business of providing payroll services for 35 years. He now shares his experience with you by outlining some of the benefits of an outsourced payroll.

Outsourcing the payroll can save your organisation both time and money. Users of a payroll service benefit from all the accessibility, flexibility and control of running payroll in-house without having to allocate IT equipment or valuable time and resources. There are many advantages to outsourcing payroll and listed below are some of the reasons why you should consider this option.

  1. Cost

Running an in-house payroll can be a costly option. How many hours are staff devoting to payroll related activities and how much does this cost? Compare this to the cost of using a payroll service provider, not forgetting to factor in spend on printing and distributing payslips, creating returns for HMRC etc. You may be surprised at the result.

  1. Flexibility

Routine and time consuming payroll administrator can be draining to your staff and your business. When realised from routine payroll responsibilities, your staff will be free to focus on other, more creative work.

  1. Accuracy

Payroll mistakes can be painful to your finances. A good payroll services provider is far less likely to make a serious error and, if a mistake is made, you can address this with the provider rather than having to discipline your staff.

  1. Reliability

With a payroll service, output speed and quality won’t vary in accordance with staff changes or absence. Plus, you won’t have to spend time helping new staff to understand your payroll system and practices.

  1. Legislation

A payroll service provider will have relevant, current knowledge and will understand statutory payroll legislation and its application. Furthermore, they will ensure the payroll software is maintained in line with HRMC requirements, such as Real Time Information and the application of changes to tax and NI.

  1. Security

Do you really have time to closely supervise the payroll for potential fraud? With an n outsourced payroll you remove the risk of payment manipulation, paying ghost employees etc. Plus, the provider can take care of the technology making your software available whenever it is needed without the worry about how it all works.

  1. Accountability

If Payslips are delayed, payments not made or paperwork not handled correctly, it is down to the service provider to correct the situation. If the provider cannot remedy the situation to your satisfaction, you can seek redress or, in a worst case scenario, switch to another provider.

There is a lot to be said for the peace of mind that outsourcing of payroll can bring to any organisation. No headaches, no stress – leaving you free to focus on other, more productive tasks, whilst the experts take care of ensuring staff are paid correctly, on time and in accordance with legislation.
